Discussion of a Master's Dissertation

On Thursday, 16/6/2022, the master's thesis of the graduate student (Haider Ibrahim Mutar) specialized in (Computer Engineering) was discussed in the discussion room (Hall No. 9) at the Control and Systems Engineering Department for his research entitled:

“PSO-based Energy Optimization Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Network” The discussion committee consisted of:

1- Asst. Prof. Dr. Hamid Musa Hassan Chairman

2- Asst. Prof. Dr. Dalal Abd-Almuhsin Hmood Member

3- Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mudhir Hassan Member

4- Asst. Prof. Dr.Muna Muhammed Jawad Member and Supervisor

This dissertation introduces an algorithm to extend the life of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), where it has been proposed to deploy the sensors (wireless sensors) in the form of fixed groups arranged as geometric shapes to ensure full coverage of the area being monitored, and to ensure the balance of network loads. The researcher proposed a technique for selecting the cluster head based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm using a new fitness function. This technology takes into account various factors to extend the life of the network, including the distance from the base station (BS), and the power remaining at the sensor node. This dissertation deals with two study cases; the first one is about monitoring liquid levels in oil reservoir fields by networks of wireless sensor radars (WSRs), and the second one is about monitoring forest fires through wireless sensor networks for early detection of forest fires.
