The Control and Systems Engineering Department organizes a workshop on the impact of social media on the educational process
In celebration of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Week and under the auspices of the Head of the Control and Systems Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Azad Raheem Kareem, the Educational Guidance Division held a workshop titled "Social Media and Its Role in the Educational Process" on Monday, December 23, 2024, in the conference hall.
The workshop was supervised by Dr. Alyaa Abdulreda Abaas, Head of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, and the lecture was presented by Prof. Dr. Bushra Kadhim Oleiwi and Lecturer Reem Majeed Ibrahim. The workshop addressed various topics concerning the active role of social media in education, highlighting its positive and negative effects, as well as discussing its impact on mental health and social relationships. Furthermore, it tackled challenges such as learning disorders, distraction, and lack of focus, which could lead to social isolation.
The workshop stressed the importance of leveraging social media to enhance the educational process, relying on trustworthy sources for information, and avoiding addiction to such platforms to maintain academic performance. Suggestions included turning off phones during study sessions, deleting apps from phones, and using them via computers instead.
The workshop saw significant interaction from students, who expressed great interest through discussions and questions that were addressed during the session.
