Control and Systems Engineering Department Conducts a Training Course Entitled (Numerical Analysis Methods Using MATLAB)

A four-day, two-hour daily training course entitled Numerical Analysis Methods Using MATLAB was held in the Department of Control and Systems Engineering in the Computer Control and Network Laboratories from 20-23/6/2022. The course was lectured by department teaching staff Dr. Hudhaifa Khalil Ibrahim and Lect. Louay Thamer Rashid. The course dealt with several topics including an introduction to MATLAB and solving mathematical equations with one or more variable using MATLAB and various methods of numerical analysis. The aim of the course is to develop the teaching staff and members of the department in the field of using MATLAB in solving mathematical equations using various methods of numerical analysis. The department will distribute certificates to participants after the course.

Discussion of a Master's Dissertation

Discussion of a Master's Dissertation

On Thursday, 16/6/2022, the master's thesis of the graduate student (Haider Ibrahim Mutar) specialized in (Computer Engineering) was discussed in the discussion room (Hall No. 9) at the Control and Systems Engineering Department for his research entitled:

“PSO-based Energy Optimization Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Network” The discussion committee consisted of:

1- Asst. Prof. Dr. Hamid Musa Hassan Chairman

2- Asst. Prof. Dr. Dalal Abd-Almuhsin Hmood Member

3- Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mudhir Hassan Member

4- Asst. Prof. Dr.Muna Muhammed Jawad Member and Supervisor

This dissertation introduces an algorithm to extend the life of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), where it has been proposed to deploy the sensors (wireless sensors) in the form of fixed groups arranged as geometric shapes to ensure full coverage of the area being monitored, and to ensure the balance of network loads. The researcher proposed a technique for selecting the cluster head based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm using a new fitness function. This technology takes into account various factors to extend the life of the network, including the distance from the base station (BS), and the power remaining at the sensor node. This dissertation deals with two study cases; the first one is about monitoring liquid levels in oil reservoir fields by networks of wireless sensor radars (WSRs), and the second one is about monitoring forest fires through wireless sensor networks for early detection of forest fires.

A Campaign to Plant 500 Olive Trees

A Campaign to Plant 500 Olive Trees

Under the supervision of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Ghabban, and in cooperation among the Control and Systems Engineering Department, the IoT Maker Foundation, and the Voluntary Work Unit at the university, a campaign has been carried out to plant the university’s gardens and its empty spaces and corridors. The university students and affiliates participated in this campaign, with the aim of increasing green spaces and adding a beautiful view to the university. The President of the University, his administrative assistant, and the Head of the Control and Systems Engineering Department, contributed to the process of planting the blessed tree. They also praised the campaign leader (Engineer Muhammed Khalid), head of the foundation and one of the university’s graduate for his precious initiative. In addition, the President of the University thanked all the volunteers in the campaign for a more beautiful University of Technology.
