The Department Hosts a Professor from a Spanish University

The Control and Systems Engineering Department hosted Prof. Dr. Basil Al-Hadithi, who is an associated professor in "Escuela Tecnica Superior de Ingenieria y Diseno Industrial" at University Politecnica de Madrid-Spain. Prof. Dr. Basil gave a scientific seminar entitled "Estimation and Control of Nonlinear Systems Applying Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Model". This seminar was held in the conference hall of the department on Tuesday the 30th of July 2019. The seminar was attended by a group of lecturers and a number of graduate students, who enriched the scientific debate. It was also planned to make future cooperation with the professor in several aspects including teaching one of the subjects of graduate students, the joint supervision of their research, and the establishment of a workshop during the future hosting, in addition to his participation in the formation of future research groups with the academic staff of the department.

Students of the Control and Systems Engineering Department

On the 26th of May 2019, (Sadiq Munir Najm) who is a student at the Control and Systems Engineering Department, the second stage of the Mechatronics Branch, attained a patent from the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control for his project (The Invention of a Belt to Help the Blind to Walk), which is a belt for a new life. This device is used to assist the blind to detect obstacles and determine their direction using ultrasound and the generation of an alarm when approaching the obstacle by vibration from the same direction. The device is easy to use and light in weight. We wish the student all success in his studies and more scientific progress in the service of our university and our great country.

The Competitive Examination for the Applicants of the Graduate Studies at the Control and Systems Engineering Department

On Sunday the 23rd of June 2019, the applicants of the graduate studies, the master degree, for the academic year (2019-2020) conducted the electronic competitive exam in the department for all the branches. The examination process went smoothly without any technical obstacles. In this regard, the exam was inspected by the President of the University (Prof. Dr. Emad Hussain Marza Al Husseini), the Head of the Department (Asst. Prof. Dr. Azad Raheem Kareem) and the Assistant Head of the Department for Scientific Affairs and Graduate Studies, where the efforts made by the competitive examination committee were praised for facilitating the examination process, providing a comfortable atmosphere for performing the test electronically and presenting the results immediately after the exam.

Master Thesis Discussion (Rouneq Adnan Mahmoud)

A graduate student in the Control and Systems Engineering Department (Rouneq Adnan Mahmoud) received a master's degree in engineering (Control Engineering) after discussing her thesis entitled "Intelligent Robust Controller Design for Anesthesia Systems)". The discussion took place on Wednesday the 12th of June 2019 on the Discussion Hall number (9) in the department. The examination committee consisted of:

1- Asst. Prof. Dr. Hazem Ibraheem Ali / Chairman

2- Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Khalaf Hamoudi / Member

3- Lect. Dr. Sami Kadhum Hassan / Member

4- Asst. Prof. Dr. Safanah Mudheher Raafat / Member and Supervisor

The main part of anesthesia depends on the method of control of the drug type and the patient's analgesic status by regulating and concealing the hypnotic process which depends on the clinical indicators, such as heart beat rate, blood pressure, and BIS index derived from spectral analysis of the brain's electrical plan. In this work, the jacobian method was proposed to obtain the linear model of the nonlinear model where two robust controllers, namely the loop controller and the fixed loop controller, were designed to control the DOA system. The discussion was attended by the head of the department (Asst. Prof. Dr. Azad Raheem Kareem) and the assistant head of the department for administrative affairs. On this occasion, we congratulate the student (Rouneq Adnan Mahmoud) and wish her all the success.

Master Thesis Discussion (Huda Talib Najim)

A graduate student in the Control and Systems Engineering Department (Huda Talib Najim) received a master's degree in engineering (Mechatronics) after discussing her thesis entitled "Optimal FL Control for 3-RRR Planar Parallel Manipulator". The discussion took place on Tuesday the 28th of May 2019 on the Discussion Hall number (9) in the department. The examination committee consisted of:

1- Asst. Prof. Dr. Firas Abdulrazzaq Raheem / Chairman

2- Asst. Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Qasim Ibrahim / Member

3- Lect. Dr. Bashra Kadhim Oleiwi / Member

4- Asst. Prof. Dr. Amjad Jaleel Humaidi / Member and Supervisor

Parallel robots are characterized by their high performance in terms of accuracy, rigidity, acceleration and their ability to handle heavy loads. Parallel robots were used in many applications for various tasks such as the manufacture of automatic tools, the pointing device for telescopes, the flight simulator and satellite measuring devices. In this research, the intelligent control strategy was applied using the type-1 fuzzy logic (T1FL) controller and the interval type-2 fuzzy logic (IT2FL) controller to control the gripper of the 3-RRR parallel-type robot. A comparison was made between the (T1FL) controller and the (IT2FL) controller in terms of track following and the robustness characteristics of the controllers. The effectiveness of each controllers was assessed based on four paths, namely the circle, square, triangle and infinity. On this occasion, we congratulate the student (Huda Talib Najim) and wish her all the success.
